TACTICS
Eldar was my first army and I have been collecting
for about 1 ½ years, my experience with Eldar is fairly good.
I've collected almost 3000 points so far but have pretty much
only played orks, A little bit of Space Marines, and even less
tyranids. But I like to think I'm pretty good with my strategy,
and I beat ork most of the time(haha Lixor). So here I go…
General tactics: Eldar are, I feel, the strongest
race in 40k, hat excluding the new necrons who are very cheesy,
but most will say that about Eldar. There main strength is speed,
and they have troops that cover almost any basis. Almost all of
their troops can move 10" or more, this fact makes them very
maneuverable and hard to hit. When using your Eldar make sure
you can get troops any where on the board in a turn to lend support.
Warp spiders and Swooping hawks do this very nicely. Eldar also
have very good hth troops and Wraith Guard can blow the $#!+ out
of anything.
CHARACTERS
Avatar: strongest character in the game, well, maybe
except the Blood Thirster. But he has fallen many a time to a
lascannon, but is immune to most other heavies that could do him
harm, so depending on your opponent, you have to decide. Never
use in low points either., 2500 or more.
Farseer: love him, has an uncanny ability to just
not die Mine has taken on countless death company and orks with
out dying, escaping great odds. I usually give mine Witch blade,
Eldar Spirit Stones and Combat drugs, and sometimes a melta gun
and a chain sword just for some added kick. This makes him very
offensive, and a big target. I have sometimes waited whole games
just waiting for an enemy to get close enough But he does get
results, so give him a try.
Warlocks: never used them, but lend great physic
support.
Exarchs; absolutely best characters in the game,
with some many options, they have too may possibilities. hth masters
and have great gun options. I have killed masses of orks with
a swooping hawk Exarchs and lasblaster and fastshot. And bounding
banshee can kill a lot too.
Most of the other characters don't have models yet
so I haven't used them and can't give much insight.
Squads
Gaurdians: love them to take hits for me, and catapults
up nice and close work wonders against fodder armies. Always give
them catapults and group them in 5-7 models.
Dire Adventures: never used them, but don't plan
on it anyway, get guardians instead.
Striking Scorpions: Work well 1 on 1, but if they
get grouped and can't charge they die real quick, use in a large
group.
Howling Banshee's: great hth troops, just make sure
that's all they do. They really can't take a hit either so keep
them under cover. Great against marines, even characters.
Fire Dragons: I have problems getting these guys
close enough to shoot, 12" is really short but still they
are something to look at, SM with melta's are 38-40 points, Fire
dragons are only 28.
Swooping hawks: their wicked, fly anywhere on the
board in a turn, and even fly off it, but they do die quite easily
to over -watch, so watch it, they do keep squads from shooting
though.
Warpspiders: these troops just kick, nothing else
can warp, shoot, than warp again, and they basically carry heavy
flamers, what more could you ask for in a troop ??? Use them in
groups of 4-5 and watch those little green $#!+'s dies.
Sliver lances: haven't used them, but I'd rather
put guardians in them, a bit pricy.
Dark reapers: work really well wit plasma missiles,
can block line of sight nicely, one time, I rolled double 6's
when I was testing what they would do, killed a lot of orks.
Wraithgaurd: I still have yet to play a game well
with these guys, being the slowest Eldar troops with a short gun,
makes them hard to hit what you opponent doesn't want you too,
but many consider them cheap and with good reason. The power to
nuke anything that comes at them on a 4+ is amazing.
Scouts: They make short work of orks and other lightly armored troops, but don't make such an impression on marines, but massed shots can kill characters.
Harlequins: ok, i have been correct about these guys, great hth
fighters but don't use them as sceen, or else, my buds at #warhammer will kick your ass!!!,
Pirates and dragon riders: haven't used them at all.
Support:
Warwalkers: great, 2+ save in the front, and 2 heavies,
amazing war machine, I use twin scatter lasers on mine, but I
just waiting to try twin heavy plasma.
Dreadnought: basically every other dread, but a little
better, only one heavy, but 2 powerfists, and heavy flamers an
really do some damage. If your only taking dread or a walker,
choose a warwalker.
Vyper: only used mine a few times, but deadly is
an understatement . Use for pop-up attacks to keep alive.
Weapon Platforms: haven't used them much, but rather
have something that moves as well.
Flacon: haven't got one yet, but they seem mean as
hell.
Well, that's about it, just remember to relie on
there strength and never give them a job they weren't suppose
to do.
